Introducing Parrot Training School

Hello there, my name is Clive Jeffrey, welcome to ParrotTrainingSchool.Com, the school for all companion parrot lovers who want to learn how to form a better relationship with their pet bird.

I have been a parrot and pet bird lover ever since I was a kid. My grandmother always kept budgies and cockatiels in an outside aviary and I guess I caught the bug from her. I was given my first budgie at the age of about seven and ever since then I have been trying to figure out ways to best communicate with them. Back then there was no internet, let alone any books on the subject at the libraries near me.

The fact that you are reading this means that you are a parrot lover just like me and I am sure you are going to enjoy Parrot Training School as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.

My idea with Parrot Training School is to provide lots of useful information for companion parrot lovers to increase their enjoyment and interaction with their birds while enhancing the lives the parrots in the process.

So in a nutshell, Parrot Training School is not only a school for parrots but also for parrot owners themselves to learn from.

Everything that I will be teaching you will be based on using Applied Behaviour Analysis and Positive Reinforcement Techniques. That’s right, I will be teaching you training techniques based on science!

Now this is a great thing! You see I am not here to tell you that I have come up with a magic silver bullet that will solve all your problems over night. I am in no way claiming to be some sort of “bird whisperer” or “guru”!

What I am going to teach you works because it follows scientific principles!

This is exciting because it means you can learn it too!

I like to compare “Behavioural Science” to “Sheet Music”. With music you can study the notes and try learning to play an instrument on your own or you could get tuition and learn to play much faster.

The same goes for learning to train your parrot, you could struggle along on your own BUT you don’t have to! That’s right, the great news is that I will walk you through the training process and I am here to help you every step of the way!

Through my continued search for information on parrot training I was lucky enough to come across the work of Dr Susan Friedman Ph.D, Professor of Psychology at Utah State University. This was life changing for me and I have been lucky enough to study under Dr Friedman both in person and online.

Through Dr Friedman I was introduced to Steve Martin, the founder of NEI and the IAATE (International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators) which I have been an associate member of since 2005. I have attended a training camp at Steve’s Florida property, where I was fortunate to work with many different species of birds.

Armed with this new knowledge I spent the next few years working on and perfecting my training skills as best I could, at all times looking for the “most positive, least intrusive” way to get the desired behaviour from my birds.

I continued my search for more information and as luck would have it I came across Joe Krathwohl, “The Birdman of Las Vegas”. I have to say that the level of understanding that I now have about parrot behaviour and training, is thanks to Joe. Joe literally helped me “join all the dots” and put all the behaviour theory into practice.

Now I tell you all this, not to blow my own trumpet but to give credibility to the techniques that I will be teaching you. I believe these techniques are the most important steps in building a great relationship with your parrot!

So if you would like to build a better relationship with your pet parrot or would like to learn how to train tricks on cue then bookmark this page and stay tuned for regular updates!

I am going to teach you how to deal with problem behaviours like biting and screaming and better still how to set the scene (antecedents) to avoid these problem behaviours occurring in the first place!

You see at Parrot Training School you will learn to TEACH your parrot how to LEARN and from there, the sky is the limit.

So thanks for stopping by and I look forward to getting to know you and your birds!
